Oracle Fusion SCM: From Purchase Requisition to Inventory
Supply chain transactions are connected. A purchase order, receipt, and inventory balance are not isolated records; each represents a stage in a broader operational flow.
1. Requisition and approval
A requisition expresses an internal purchasing need. Approval rules and procurement policies determine how the request proceeds. When troubleshooting, verify the requester, business context, approval status, and any validation messages.
2. Purchase order lifecycle
The purchase order communicates approved purchasing details to the supplier. Changes, cancellations, and supplier coordination can affect the expected receipt and downstream processing.
3. Receiving
Receiving records the delivery against purchasing expectations. The required receipt, inspection, and delivery steps depend on the organization’s setup and the item’s handling requirements.
4. Inventory availability
Inventory transactions update quantities and locations according to the configured process. When a quantity is missing, check the source document, receipt status, item, organization, subinventory, and transaction history before assuming the balance is incorrect.
5. A repeatable troubleshooting checklist
- Identify the source document and current status.
- Confirm item and organization details.
- Review approvals and receiving progress.
- Inspect inventory transaction history and error messages.
- Verify the resulting on-hand quantity and related reports.
These are general learning concepts; the exact flow varies by configuration, item controls, and business policy.
