Oracle Fusion SCM: Understanding the Procure-to-Receive Lifecycle

Procure-to-receive is a connected business process that moves a requirement into an approved purchase and records the delivery of goods or services. Oracle Fusion SCM supports these stages through related documents, approvals, supplier data, item setup, receiving controls, and inventory processing.

1. Requisition

A requisition records the request for goods or services. Before troubleshooting a blocked requisition, review its status, requester, business unit, item or description, charge information, and approval history.

2. Purchase order

An approved requisition may be used to create a purchase order, depending on the configured process. The purchase order contains supplier, line, schedule, price, delivery, and other purchasing information. Approval and communication status should be checked before expecting a receiving transaction.

3. Receiving

Receiving records the delivery against the expected order. Receipt routing, quantity tolerances, destination, inspection requirements, and receiving organization can affect how the receipt is processed.

4. Inventory

For inventory destinations, receiving and inventory processing can affect on-hand balances and transaction availability. Validate item and organization setup, subinventory or locator details, unit of measure, and transaction status before repeating a failed operation.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Identify the last successfully completed document or transaction.
  • Review approval history and current document status.
  • Confirm supplier, item, business unit, and receiving organization details.
  • Check quantities, units of measure, destination, and applicable tolerances.
  • Read the processing message and collect evidence before changing data.

Do not assume that a missing downstream document means the entire flow failed; the source transaction may be waiting for approval, validation, or a separate processing step. Explore our Oracle Fusion SCM training information or SCM consulting services.
