Oracle Fusion HCM: Core HR and the Employee Lifecycle

Oracle Fusion Human Capital Management (HCM) supports employee and workforce processes. Core HR concepts are easier to understand when viewed as connected data and lifecycle events rather than isolated pages.

1. Workforce structures

Organizations model their workforce through structures such as legal employers, business units, departments, jobs, and positions, depending on the implementation. These structures influence how workers are organized and how transactions are processed.

2. Worker records

Worker records hold key employment information. Data quality, effective dates, and appropriate access are important because changes can affect downstream processes and reporting.

3. Lifecycle transactions

Common events include hiring, transfers, promotions, and termination. Each transaction should follow the configured approvals and effective-date rules.

4. Roles and data access

Security roles and data access should match a user’s responsibilities. Sensitive workforce data should be available only to appropriately authorized users.

5. Reporting and troubleshooting

When a report does not match expectations, verify the worker status, effective date, organizational assignment, filters, and the user’s data access. Distinguish a data issue from a reporting or security issue.
