Oracle Fusion Financials: A Practical Period-Close Checklist
Period close is a coordinated business process, not a single button. The exact steps depend on an organization’s configuration, accounting calendar, controls, and responsibilities. This checklist provides a general framework for planning and investigating close activities.
1. Review transaction completeness
Confirm that expected transactions have been entered and that unresolved exceptions are understood. Review relevant subledger processing and accounting status according to your organization’s procedures.
2. Investigate holds and exceptions
Identify invoices, receipts, journals, or other transactions that remain incomplete or unaccounted. Resolve root causes using approved procedures rather than forcing a status change.
3. Review journals and balances
Check journal status, posting results, period selection, and account balances. Confirm that supporting reconciliations are completed by the responsible team.
4. Confirm dependencies
Some close tasks depend on completion of upstream processes. Coordinate with Accounts Payable, Receivables, Fixed Assets, and other relevant teams so that dependencies are visible.
5. Document sign-off
Record outstanding items, responsible owners, approvals, and final close status using the organization’s established controls and audit requirements.
